writer’s block à la dorothy parker

What a lovely find (from the blog “letters of note“), this reproduction of a telegraph (remember those?) from Dorothy Parker to her editor. “I can’t look you in the voice,” she says and not only calls herself possibly incompetent but misspells it (although I imagine it was the clerk at Western Union who was responsible for that).

  1. One of my greatest thrills was going to the Algonquin Hotel and sitting in Ms. Parker’s very chair at the roundtable. The quote I like best from her is: ” I like to have a martini, two at the very most, three I’m under the table, and four I’m under my host.” My kind of gal!
