a contrarian, a hero of the mind

There are few people in this world brave enough to not only use their minds but to speak it, and today we lost one of them, Christopher Hitchens.

Oh, I may not have agreed with everything he said, but that is precisely what I loved about him. He was totally irreverent, shockingly so. Delightfully un-PC which meant that you never really knew what would come from his mouth, but what did was informed and intelligent, entertaining and thought-provoking. He didn’t just blather and spout, he believed deeply what he said and could debate it with eloquence and fire.

Well, enough of me…here are Stephen Fry and other friends in a tribute to him, which in a nice twist Christopher himself was able to watch and enjoy:
